Publications have enabled nations to incite revolutions, and then are used to rebuild functioning societies. Letters sent between families and friends have allowed bonds to remain despite the circumstances that might otherwise tear them apart. And individuals have for centuries entrusted to journals the words that provide personal companionship and comfort.
